For anglers — buying advice

What you are buying.

This is the agreement between Reachwater and you when you buy advice from a guide through us. It covers what you get, what it costs, and what a guide's judgement can and cannot promise. By buying advice, you agree to these terms.

Version 1.0Effective on acceptanceAU / NZ

The short version

  • You are buying a guide's judgement about your water and your dates. Not a booking, not a guided trip, and not a guarantee of fish.
  • You pay one price, all in. Trip Plans start at $60 and calls at $120 for 30 minutes. Nothing is added at checkout.
  • A plan comes with seven days of follow-up questions after it lands, included in the price.
  • Guides fish for a living, often out of reception. They set their own reply windows and we show you theirs before you buy. We do not promise a turnaround on their behalf.
  • If a guide cannot deliver what you paid for, you get your money back.

The sections below are the full terms. Where they differ from this summary, the full terms apply.

1. Who this is between

This agreement is between Reachwater, the operator of the Reachwater platform (“Reachwater”, “we”, “us”), and you, the angler buying advice (“you”).

The advice itself comes from an independent guide. We are the platform they sell it through: we take your order, carry it to them, handle the payment, and stand behind the delivery. We are not the guide, and the guide is not our employee.

2. What you are buying

Reachwater sells two things, and both of them are a person's judgement rather than data.

A Trip Plan

A written plan for one water and your dates, prepared for your trip rather than assembled from a template. It covers where to fish, what to put on, and when to be there, in the guide's own reading of the conditions you are heading into. It includes seven days of follow-up questions after it lands, so you can come back with what the plan did not anticipate.

A video call

Time with the guide, one to one, on the water you are planning. Available from $120 for 30 minutes and $200 for 60. You tell them your water and your target before the call, so the time goes on your trip rather than on background.

3. What it is not

Buying advice does not book a guided trip, hold a date, or put you on anyone's calendar. If you want to fish with a guide, that is a separate arrangement made directly with them.

Advice is not a fishing licence, a safety briefing, or permission to be anywhere. Access rules, licences, closed seasons, bag limits and local restrictions are yours to check and to follow, and they change more often than any plan can track.

4. Price and payment

You pay one price, in Australian dollars, shown in full before you buy. That price is what the guide charges plus what we charge for running the platform. There is no separate fee added at checkout and no charge you have not already seen.

Published prices are floors, shown as “from”, because guides set their own rates. The price that applies is the one on the guide's page at the moment you buy. Prices are current rather than fixed for good, and any change applies to purchases made after it takes effect.

Payment is taken when you buy, through our payment provider, and we hold it until the sale is complete.

5. Timing

Guides fish dawn to dark, are busiest in the season you most want to hear from them, and are often out of reception for days. So we do not publish a universal turnaround, and we do not promise one on a guide's behalf.

What we do instead: each guide sets their own reply window, we show it to you before you buy, and we chase anything that runs past it. Calls are usually evenings and off-days, for the same reason.

6. Changes, cancellations and refunds

Plans change and weather changes faster. If you need to move a call, tell us as early as you can and we will work it out with the guide.

You can cancel a Trip Plan for a full refund any time before the guide starts work on it. Once a plan has been delivered it has been done, so it is not refundable because the fishing turned out hard. A call is refundable up until it takes place.

If a guide does not deliver, delivers something other than what you bought, or goes quiet, tell us and we will refund you in full. That is ours to sort out rather than something to take up with the guide yourself.

7. Advice is judgement, not a guarantee

No honest guide promises fish. Conditions move, water rises and falls, and the fish that were there last week are somewhere else this week. What you are buying is a good judgement about a place, from someone who fishes it, which improves your odds rather than settling them.

You are responsible for your own safety on the water and for the decisions you make there. Advice about a spot is not a statement that it is safe for you, in your boat, on that day, with your experience.

8. Your information

To buy advice you give us your contact details and tell us about your trip. What you write about the trip goes to the guide in your own words, because that is what they are answering. Your payment details go to our payment provider and are not held by us.

We do not sell your information, and we do not pass it to anyone beyond the guide you bought from and the providers who run the platform for us.

9. What you can do with the advice

The plan is yours to use, keep and fish. It was written for you, so please keep it that way: do not republish it, sell it, or feed it into a product that resells the guide's knowledge. The guide keeps the rights to what they wrote.

Telling a mate what worked is fishing, not republishing. What we are asking is that you do not take a guide's living and put it on the internet.

10. Conduct

Guides give you their time and their reading of the water. Treat them the way you would treat someone who took you out on it. We will step in where an angler is abusive, and we can decline to sell to someone who has been.

11. Liability

To the extent the law allows, Reachwater is not liable for the advice a guide gives, for what you do with it, or for what happens on the water. Nothing in this section limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act, or other laws that cannot be excluded. Where those laws give you a remedy, you have it, whatever this document says.

12. Changes to these terms

These terms may change as Reachwater grows. The version that applies to a purchase is the one published when you made it, and we will give reasonable notice of anything material before it takes effect.

13. The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of the Australian state or territory in which Reachwater operates, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you are in New Zealand, nothing here removes the protections New Zealand law gives you.

14. Talk to us

If something here is unclear, or a purchase has not gone the way it should have, get in touch through the Reachwater website. We would rather sort it out than leave you guessing.
