For anglers — requesting a trip

You are asking us to ask them.

This is the agreement between Reachwater and you when you ask us to carry a trip request to a guide. It is short, because what we are doing is narrow: we put your request in front of them, we chase it, and we tell you what came back.

Version 1.0Effective on acceptanceAU / NZ

The short version

  • A request is not a booking. No date is held, no spot is reserved, and nothing is confirmed until the guide says so.
  • Nothing is charged. We take no payment and no commission on a guided trip.
  • The trip itself is between you and the guide, on their terms, at their rate.
  • Most guides on Reachwater are listed from public sources and have not signed up with us. They are under no obligation to reply.
  • We will tell you what we hear back, including when the answer is nothing.

The sections below are the full terms. Where they differ from this summary, the full terms apply.

1. Who this is between

This agreement is between Reachwater, the operator of the Reachwater platform (“Reachwater”, “we”, “us”), and you, the angler making a request (“you”).

It covers the request only. It does not cover the trip, which is a separate arrangement between you and the guide, and it does not cover buying advice, which has its own terms.

2. What we do

When you send a request we take it to the guide using the contact details on their own listing, in your words rather than ours. We follow it up if we hear nothing, and we come back to you with whatever answer we get.

That is the whole of it, and we would rather say so plainly than let the word “request” do more work than it can carry.

3. What we do not do

We do not hold a date, reserve a spot, check availability, take a deposit, or confirm anything on a guide's behalf. We are not acting as the guide's agent and we cannot commit them to anything.

Most guides in the Reachwater directory are listed from publicly available business information and have not signed up with us. They have made no promise to reply, to be available, or to quote a particular price, and a request that goes unanswered is a normal outcome rather than a fault.

4. Who you contract with

If a guide takes your trip, the agreement for that trip is between you and them. Their rate, their deposit, their cancellation policy, their weather calls, their insurance and their licences all apply, and none of them are ours to set or to vary.

Read what they send you. Where their terms and this document appear to conflict about the trip, theirs govern the trip.

5. What it costs

Nothing. We take no payment from you for carrying a request, and we take no commission from the guide on a trip they run. You pay the guide directly, on their terms.

Advice is the thing we charge for, and it is bought separately and knowingly.

6. The listing information

Directory listings are compiled from publicly available sources. We check what we can and we get things wrong, so treat a listing as a starting point rather than a verified record. Where a listing is unclaimed, the guide has not confirmed any of it.

Anything derived rather than quoted, such as the fishing type or the species tags on a listing, is our inference about someone else's business. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we will correct it.

7. Your information

Your request, including what you write about the trip you have in mind, goes to the guide it is addressed to. We keep a copy so we can chase it and tell you what happened. We do not sell your information and we do not pass it to guides you did not ask for.

8. Safety and the water

Being on the water carries risk, and a guided trip does not remove it. Licences, closed seasons, bag limits and access rules are yours to check. Decisions you make on the day are yours and the guide's, not ours.

9. Conduct

A request goes to a real business with a real inbox. Send one you would be happy to receive. We will stop carrying requests from anyone who uses them to harass a guide, and we can decline a request without giving a reason.

10. Liability

To the extent the law allows, Reachwater is not liable for whether a guide replies, for what they quote, for how a trip goes, or for anything that happens on the water. Nothing in this section limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act, or other laws that cannot be excluded.

11. Changes to these terms

These terms may change as Reachwater grows. The version that applies to a request is the one published when you sent it.

12. The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of the Australian state or territory in which Reachwater operates, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you are in New Zealand, nothing here removes the protections New Zealand law gives you.

13. Talk to us

If a request has not gone the way it should have, or a listing is wrong, get in touch through the Reachwater website.
