For guides — guiding a trip

Your rate, paid in full.

This is the agreement between Reachwater and you when you guide a day on one of our trips. We find the angler, take their payment and pay you your rate. The day on the water is yours to run.

Version 1.0Effective on acceptanceAU / NZ

The short version

  • You set your rate and we pay it in full. Our platform fee is added to the angler’s price, never taken from yours.
  • We only book a day you have confirmed. Saying no, or not replying, is fine.
  • We pay you within 7 days of the guided day.
  • If the angler cancels late, you are paid for the days you kept: half from 14 to 29 days out, all of it closer than 14 days.
  • The weather call is yours. A day you call off for safety, and can’t move, isn’t paid, and we refund the angler.

The sections below are the full terms. Where they differ from this summary, the full terms apply.

1. Who this is between

This agreement is between Reachwater, the operator of the Reachwater platform (“Reachwater”, “we”, “us”), and you, the guide or guiding business guiding a day on a Reachwater trip (“you”).

It covers trip days only. Receiving enquiries through your listing has its own terms.

2. How a day gets booked

When an angler asks for a trip on water you fish, we may ask whether you are free on their dates. We tell you what we know: the dates, how many anglers, their experience and what they are after. There is no deadline to reply, and no is a fine answer.

If you are free, you tell us your rate for the day for that party, what the day includes (the hours, gear, lunch and where you meet) and how long you can hold the date. We send the angler your name, what the day includes and one price for the trip, which doesn’t show your rate. The day is booked when the angler pays, and we tell you when they do. Only confirm a day you can guide.

3. Your rate and our fee

You set your rate, and we pay it in full. Our platform fee is added to what the angler pays; it is never deducted from your rate. The rate you confirm for a booking is fixed for that booking.

If you guide in New Zealand, we pay you in New Zealand dollars, and the exchange rate is ours to carry.

4. When you are paid

We hold the angler’s full payment from the day they book, so a day you keep free is already paid for. We pay your rate to your nominated account within 7 days of the guided day. Anything due to you from a cancellation is paid within 7 days of it.

5. If the angler cancels

We count back from the first day of the trip:

  • 30 days or more before: the booking is released, and you are not paid.
  • 14 to 29 days before: we pay you half your rate for each guided day you kept.
  • Fewer than 14 days before, or if the angler doesn’t turn up: we pay your rate in full.

If the angler wants to move their dates and you agree, the booking moves with them.

6. Weather and safety

Whether the water is safe and worth fishing is your call, and it is final on the day. Don’t run a day you judge unsafe. If you call a guided day off for flood, high wind, fire danger, a closure or another safety reason, offer another day of the trip if you can. If the day can’t move, you are not paid for it, and we refund the angler.

Rain on its own isn’t a reason to call a day off.

7. If you can’t make it

If you fall ill, are injured or have an emergency, tell us as soon as you can, so we can find another guide for the angler. You are not paid for a day you don’t guide. If you cancel days you have confirmed for other reasons, we may stop asking you.

8. Running the day

Run the day you described when you confirmed. You hold the licences, permits, concessions and insurance that guiding needs where you take the angler, such as a Department of Conservation concession for guiding on conservation land in New Zealand. We may ask to see them before we book you.

9. You are independent

Nothing here makes you an employee, partner or agent of Reachwater. You run your own business, set your own rate, and are responsible for your own tax and registrations. You can work with anyone else, and we ask for no exclusivity.

10. The angler’s information

We give you what you need to run the day: the angler’s name, how to reach them, and what they have told us about their fishing. Use it for this trip only. Don’t add it to a mailing list or pass it on.

11. Liability

You are responsible for how you run the day, as you would be with any client. To the extent the law allows, Reachwater is not liable for what happens on the water. Nothing in this section limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act, or other laws that cannot be excluded.

12. Changes to these terms

These terms may change as Reachwater grows. We will tell you before a change takes effect, and a day you have confirmed keeps the terms it was confirmed under.

13. The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of the Australian state or territory in which Reachwater operates, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you guide in New Zealand, nothing here removes the protections New Zealand law gives you.

14. Talk to us

If anything here is unclear, get in touch through the Reachwater website. We would rather sort it out than leave you guessing.
